5-Year-Old Cosplay Michael is Bound for San Diego Comic Con International

Let's start here with the pitch:  Go to http://www.gofundme.com/CosplayMichael and donate if you can.

Nope.  There is nothing wrong with this little guy!  He doesn't have a rare disease.  He isn't from a disadvantaged family or a crumbling neighborhood.  He is not unreasonably challenged, any more than any other child of 5-years-old.

Michael is a normal, healthy, happy 5-year-old boy with big dreams, high hopes and a passion for creativity.  He is a cosplayer.  In short, he enjoys creating, enhancing and dressing up in costumes emulating his favorite comic book and film characters.  He takes it quite seriously, and he's good at it.

Michael began dressing up, like most kids, as soon as he was old enough to dress himself.  He saved Halloween costumes and played in them around the house.  He borrowed mom and dad's clothes and accessories to create original adaptations of any character or imaginary person of which he dreamt.  Michael loved everything about pretending, and then something really wonderful happened.  He went to a convention.

Michael's mom, a business major and I, a published author of 5 books, own and operate a small business producing a web talk series called the Hangin With Web Show.  We travel to conventions and conferences and interview writers, artists, filmmakers and creators of all kinds and share new artists as well as celebrity entertainers with the world wide web.  In 2015, we attended our first pop culture convention: Necronomicon in Tampa Florida.  To help occupy our 4-year-old while we worked, we let him bring some of his costumes and dress up, "like the grown-ups."  He was hooked!

He found a sense of community in the immediate acceptance of adult cosplayers and convention attendees wanting photos and stopping to encourage him.  He met an adult dressed as Marvel Comic's "Loki," and himself dressed at Thor (complete with a home-made hammer), they "played."  They two battled center floor in the hotel lobby and the cosplayer, a man easily in his late 20's or even early 30's, had no trouble channeling his own inner child to play and pose and have fun with 4-year-old Michael.  We never did learn the man's real name, but we are so grateful for the time he took to make a small child's weekend so very special.

Following that weekend, our show became more popular and we found ourselves at more conventions and conferences where Michael could play and dress and be a part of this new community that both he and we had discovered.

Michael made so many friends and fellow creative cosplayers at conventions, that we decided to set up a facebook page for his endeavors.  Of course, his mom and I monitor it and share posts with him.  While he does read some, he needs a bit of help and we like to know who is posting.

In the spring of 2016, just a few short months ago, while reading his news feed to him, we were surprised to see a message from a fellow cosplayer.  Most just posted on his wall, but this one sent him a "private" message.  The message was an invitation to Cosplay Michael (his Facebook name) to participate (with his parents) in a panel at world famous San Diego Comic-Con International.  The panel now set for Friday, July 22, 2016, at 2 p.m.  and to talk about his love of cosplay and the cosplay and convention culture in which he now finds himself making friends and feeling comradeship.

We were surprised.  We were a little jealous.  We were a lot intimidated.  But his host was pleasant and cordial and his excitement was anything but muted.

"I'm a cosplay rock star," he exclaimed.  "Alright, let's go to comic con!"

Well, that's where our journey began.  Now with just days until our trip begins, we are still hoping to be able to offset the expenses of the trip with the help of this amazing community and those artists, authors, filmmakers, and creators we have tried to help for the past year.  While we have had some success with our own show, we have yet to travel out of state or such a great distance as San Diego, CA.  We live and work in Melbourne, Florida.

We have even applied for, and been approved for press access to the highly touted Nerd HQ, where many celebrities and pop culture icons gather to raise funds for Operation Smile.  We don't mind "singing for our supper," as it were, and we intend to do just that.  We don't mind at all working for our blessings, and teaching Michael how to do the same.

We do need help, though, still.  The trip is long across America.  It will take gas.  We'll need to eat.  We'll need to sleep.  We'll need time off from "day-jobs."  But it is al worth it to us to help Michael realize a dream and to demonstrate to him that he can accomplish anything if he is willing to work hard for it.  We want him to learn from the trip.  We want him to appreciate being a part of this global and vast community, to appreciate the art and creativity that is expended in this endeavor, to appreciate the fellowship of other with like ambitions and powerful dreams.  We want Michael to continue to learn to express himself and to encourage others to do that same.

You can help, and I hope you will.  Thank you for taking the time to read this article.  It means everything to us.  Please share it with as many as you can.  We ask that if you are able you take a few more moments to click:  http://www.gofundme.com/CosplayMichael and DONATE.  Just $10 will add to the donations of family and friends and help to make this seemingly simple wish come true.  It does add up.  You can make a difference to us!  Donate TODAY

Game of Thrones Reactions/Review S6E10 (The Winds of Winter)

Wow!  SPOILER ALERT:  WE give this episode 5 Stars for its ability to deliver everything viewers have been looking forward to and setting the stage for an epic future at the same time.  Many shows can tie up loose ends and wrap a season, and many others capture the imagination for coming episodes and season, but Game of Thrones season finale manages to do both with almost flawless precision!

This Season 6 finale of the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, based on the best-selling George R.R. Martin A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels, brings one of the series' best seasons to a climactic and dramatic close.  Season 6, episode 10 is titled "The Winds of Winter," and despite it's chilling and fitting title, delivers a smokin' hot finish to the 10 episode season arc.  For fans around the globe, it also pays off some fan theories (R + L = J),  and much anticipated vengeful carnage.

Showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have stepped up their already blockbuster level filmmaking to bring fans and viewers an episode sure to delight and thrill audiences everywhere.  Echoing The Godfather, all family business is settled, and the body count clears the board and sets it for the Ultimate "Game of Thrones"

WordFire Press Teams with Humble Bundle for Innovative “Sci-Fi Specials” Bundle WordFire Press and Humble Bundle have announced their second partnership with an ambitious “Sci-Fi Specials Bundle” featuring 18 major titles in a pay-what-you-want grab bag, for a limited time.

Kevin J. Anderson, publisher of WordFire Press and an international bestselling author in his own right with 23 million copies of his works in print, says, “Bundles offer an exciting and innovative way for a new independent publisher to draw attention to a lot of titles at once—and everybody benefits, from the authors, to the readers, to the designated non-profits.” Last year, Humble Bundle ran a successful bundle featuring only WordFire Press titles which sold over 11,000 copies in only two weeks.

“The new Sci-Fi Specials Bundle is the best one we’ve ever run,” Anderson says. Instead of just a grab bag of books, fully half of the 18 titles in the Sci-Fi Specials Bundle are not available to the public at the time of the Bundle launch on April 6.

One book—the new anthology Decision Points, featuring stories by bestsellers and award winners Jody Lynn Nye, Lois McMaster Bujold, Robert J. Sawyer, Jonathan Maberry, Kevin J. Anderson, and a never-before-collected Ender’s Game story by Orson Scott Card—is included here as an advance pre-production proof. The remaining books in the bundle have never previously appeared in any other bundle. The Sci-Fi Specials Bundle includes books by Alan Dean Foster, F. Paul Wilson, Dune author Frank Herbert (a collection of four previously unpublished novels), Kevin J. Anderson, J. A. Pitts, Andrew Mayne, Mario Acevedo, D.J. Butler, Ramon Terrell, Neo Edmund, Jason Henderson, Shean Pao, Quincy J. Allen, Peter J Wacks and J.R. Boyett, Josh Vogt, and Aaron Michael Ritchey. Readers choose the amount they want to pay, and the bundle unlocks more titles at certain bonus levels. A portion of the proceeds goes directly to the designated charities—the Challenger Learning Centers for Space Science Education and the Emergency Medical Fund for the Science Fiction Writers of America.

The Sci-Fi Specials Bundle will run exclusively from April 6 through April 20, after which it will no longer be available. https://www.humblebundle.com Humble Bundle sells digital content through its pay-what-you-want bundle promotions and the Humble Store. When purchasing a bundle, customers choose how much they want to pay and decide where their money goes—between the content creators, charity, and Humble Bundle. Since the company's launch in 2010, Humble Bundle has raised more than $71 million through the support of its community for a wide range of charities, providing aid for people across the world. Nominate Yesterday's Tomorrow for 5-Year Publishing Deal

WE NEED YOU!

From Saturday, March 19, 2016 for the next 30 days, author G.W. Pomichter’s latest novel Yesterday’s Tomorrow is participating in the Kindle Scout program, competing for a publishing contract with Amazon Publishing.

Yesterday’s Tomorrow is a near future thriller about a world forever changed by a devastating terrorist attack that could either cripple the free world or pull communities together as never before.

This will be the 5th book released by author and journalist G.W. Pomichter, who is the host of the growing internet series, the Hangin’ With Web Show, on which he promotes indie authors, artists, filmmakers and other creators through fun and casual interviews. Pomichter was joined in this project by co-author William DuPree.

The pair have been friends for more than a decade, but this is the first time they have collaborated a project of this kind.

If selected for publication, Yesterday’s Tomorrow will be granted a 5-year e-book and audio publishing contract by Amazon Publishing, and DuPree and Pomichter will also be releasing the book in paperback.

“It is a great privilege to participate in the Kindle Scout program and to give readers a chance to help bring this story to life,” said DuPree.

“We have been working on this story for the past year, running various scenarios and narratives to give this world a very 3 dimensional and real-to-life feel,” Pomichter added. “It is going to be something that readers will find completely immersive.”

To help produce Yesterday’s Tomorrow, visit the Kindle Scout campaign page and nominate it for publication.

Let The Games Begin: What are They Spending Millions On? From the Author of Mapping The Road Less Traveled

As the American Presidential primary season goes into full swing, people in early states are going to thee mail boxes and pulling out huge stacks of mail from candidates, and likely wondering, "Why?"  Why are such well known people spending millions at the mailbox?

Well there is no easy answer to that question, but there are some familiar themes that voters will notice.  While Television news has frantically covered the goods, bads and uglies between candidates, the war for the hearts and minds of Americans will be fought as it has been for generations at the mailbox, and below are some of the reasons why.  As the author of Mapping The Road Less Traveled, I wanted to share some of these insights with you as you head to the mailbox this season.

As you sift through the piles of mail, ask yourself a few questions, and see which candidates have been successful!

Direct mail is the most targetable for of campaign advertising. For this reason it is the most used. Because this will be one of the campaign’s most critical resources it seems prudent to spend a moment examining the elements of a well though out mail plan. There are several strategies for direct mail, but all seem to consist of some basic psychological elements. Since the purpose of any advertising in the campaign is to giver voters a reason to support a candidate and to give then their vote, a mail plan must address one of, or all of the fundamental reasons people will vote: Sentiment, Commonality, or trust. A traditional mail plan consists of all three of these elements in varying degrees.

Sentiment: A traditional mail plan will include introduction and biographical material as one of the candidate’s first mail pieces. It is important that recipients of the piece get a sense of who the candidate is, and where they come from. There are a couple of ways to accomplish this.

Smaller campaigns may choose to reserve their resources and introduce their candidate by telling both their personal and professional stories in a single mailer. This should include the candidate’s upbringing, education, their family life, marital status, professional resume, and personal philosophy. These are elements that help to establish a sense that the reader is getting to know your candidate, and building a slight sentimental connection to them.

Larger campaigns with greater financial resources should consider breaking this introduction into smaller parts and sending separate mailers. This is because the sentimental illusion will be stronger if the information takes more of a period of time. These mailers should begin with the personal introduction with information about the life, family and personal goals and philosophies of the candidate. This will establish a feeling of familiarity with them. The next phase of this strategy is to send the professional history of the candidate which will include a kind of professional resume, and mentions of any political experience the campaign deems relevant. By receiving these separately, voters may perceive a more lasting bond forming, and the sentiment factor on Election Day is stronger.
Commonality: A select but vital group of voters choose candidates much more carefully, based on the perception that a candidate has a common view of issues? These more informed voters want to know that a candidate is on their side. Mailers showing that your candidate’s views are important. This may also be achieved through single or multiple mail pieces.

Smaller campaigns may elect a single mail piece containing positions on multiple issues. It is strongly recommended that a mailer of this type be limited to and include three issues and your candidate’s position on each. This will not overload the reader, but will give them a well-rounded look at the top policy opinions of your candidate. Remember that most people receive dozens of mailers and have a limited amount of time to spend on your so keep it direct and short.

Larger campaigns should focus each mailer on a single issue. This will give the more studious voter a more in depth look at The candidate and the less anxious will at minimum receive The candidate ’s name to look at multiple times. When organizing these issue mailers, identify the most important three issues in an area or race and send a single mailer addressing each. Again, the long term nature of this promotes the perception of many conversations with the candidate and an impression that a voter is more informed about the candidate.
Trust: The final phase of the mail plan is to establish trust about the election with each recipient. By encouraging them to vote, you illustrate that you trust their judgment, and ask them once more for their support. This is also the phase where candidates may choose to distinguish themselves from their opponents.
