F R E E !! All money collected from vendor fees, sponsorships, and donations go straight to improving our downtown area with renovations and encouraging businesses to open up in our quaint town. By attending SyFy Bartow, you are actively engaged in the redevelopment of our historic downtown business district!

Another way that SyFy Bartow sets itself apart from other traditional science fiction based events is that SyFy Bartow focuses on the behind-the-scenes people: cos players that spend hundreds of dollars on elaborate costumes, the independent filmmakers, actors, and up and coming artists and authors. Our guests for the day are eager to meet and interact with the event attendees and spend the day among us.

Lastly, SyFy Bartow is a welcomed part of our community’s culture. Bartow, Florida is known for its warm hospitality, artistic flair, community tradition, and its history. SyFy Bartow has become one of those traditions and the community fully embraces the ‘characters’ into our culture. We want to make sure SyFy Bartow is about the fans having fun, without the pressure or high cost of an entry fee or wasting the day standing in a long autograph line when sometimes it’s not even guaranteed you'll get an autograph. The annual event has sparked a downtown comic book store with weekly gaming nights, two movie nights with mini costume contests, and more. SyFy Bartow is not just a once a year event that rolls into town. This is truly a part of our community where everyone is welcomed all year long.

Best Drama Short Film of 2017: "Hollywood Girl: The Peg Entwistle Story" (Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival)

LOS ANGELES, California- Inspired by true events, “Hollywood Girl: The Peg Entwistle Story, is based the on tragic ending of film actress & Broadway muse, Peg Entwistle. Peg is most remembered as the starlet who leapt off the Hollywood(land) sign in the midst of the great depression and on the verge of her own career breakthrough in 1932.

The film is being praised for evoking emotional empathy for the beautiful and talented young actress whose memory lives on as the “Hollywood Sign Girl”. The story follows Peg in the last days, hours of her life, and her untimely tragic death.

Actress, producer Laura Liguori, who stars as Entwistle, conceived the idea for the film while sitting on her balcony looking up at the Hollywood sign after receiving news that she had lost a role she had anticipated getting.

Liguori states, “Optimism is the key to success in this industry, because rejection is all too common. I’ve learned to keep my head up, be grateful for what comes and let go of what passes. As long as you give your best effort, your dreams will not fail you.”

Filmmaker, James Pomichter, of Arcane Pacific Entertainment, brought this film to life. James wrote and directed this poignant story, the first of its kind. An actor himself, he hopes to honor Entwistle’s life story.

“In the days following her suicide, the media had unfairly labeled her as a failed actress, printing her story in a very negative light. However, that’s not how I chose to portray Peg. I wanted to show her as a vulnerable, passionate young woman, who fell victim to despair as so many others did at that time.” He said.

The film also stars, veteran actor, Michael Rotthaar in an award worthy performance as “Uncle Charles” and includes cameos from Maureen Teefy (Grease 2, Fame, Supergirl), Will Rotthaar (Battle Los Angeles, Killing Kennedy), and Dan Riordan (Dream Girls, Ed Wood).

Composer, music producer, James Emley contributes to the story with an original score. “I wanted to invoke an era and capture its nostalgic jazz melodies. For the climax, it was about giving a rich and emotional soundscape to Peg’s tragic arc.” He said

On a final note, “we hope others can remember Peg for more than just a ghost that haunts the Hollywood sign, but as a great talent that should have stayed with us just a little while longer. We invite the public to celebrate Peg’s legacy,” says Pomichter.

Coming of Age by G.W. Pomichter

(First printed in the Anthology:  An Eternity of Beauty)

We are the children of rebellion, grown from the seeds if idealism,
nourished through the trials of war, strengthened by victories and defeats.
We are challenged by the future and educated by the past.
Our imaginations will shape the world;
it is by our design that ages that follow shall be guided.
Our thirst for knowledge cannot be quenched by tradition;
it must be purged through innovation.
Though bound to our flesh, its shades are no matter;
And steered by our hearts to love in forms less configured,
but greater in capacity and substance,
we are strengthened by our faith,
but the thatch and stone and mortar under which it is learned is of little consequence.
Though, reverent to the creator, whose names are many, they matter not.
We are the future.
We have been called the centennials, the millennials, and Generation X,
but we are Generation extraordinary,
And we are:
Come of Age.

5.0 out of 5 stars-- An Urban Fantasy to Draw You In and Delight You

What are the elements of a great fantasy adventure story? Gargoyles are always a great start. Fantastical settings are a must. Dynamic action and compelling characters are always an essential ingredient. Now, with Reaping the Harvest, author Robbie Cox is certainly a great beginning.

This a straight-forward and easy to read urban-fantasy that is certain to delight readers and immerse them in a gripping good against evil story without confusing ambiguity.

Cox’s writing has always focused on the interpersonal dynamics of real characters to tell terrific stories, and as tempting as it is to many writers to get caught up in a terrific fantasy setting, Cox is able to hit his mark and keep the action grounded in his characters.
Weighing in at 200 pages, this is a short and face-paced tale with an innovative and original style that will keep readers pinned to the page until the very end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining and insightful tale!,

Murder. Mayhem. Intrigue. Racial tensions. When a charred body is discovered in the ashes of the Phoenix Hotel, all of these things are ignited and author Gwen Mayo pulls readers into a complex and well-crafted world of mystery and melodrama.

Mayo’s former Pinkerton Agent turned detective, Nessa Donnelly, is a character that readers won’t soon forget. She left an impoverished past behind to become one of Kentucky's most prominent detectives. Mayo’s thorough exploration of the character makes her all the more sympathetic and is bound to tether readers to the adventure.

This is a story that centers around a murder, but it is easy to suspend disbelief, as Mayo’s reach extends beyond the crime scene into the community and the interconnected lives of its residents.

Mayo writes,”Rival forces are threatening to pull the city apart as the murder ignites old hatreds. Klansmen attack a local police sergeant with family ties to O'Brien.”

This is story strikes a contemporary nerve and is more than a simple murder mystery as it delves into the complex dynamics of racial relations, small town interconnectivity, and human deceits.

Concealed in Ash is a slam dunk and a story that I found both compelling and entertaining!
